Amelia Desmond

Amelia Desmond (1992) is a Singaporean based artist with experiences in fields of communication, business, and hospitality. Her artworks are ephemeral by nature and she draws inspiration from daily living. Abstraction is part of her artmaking process, and she creates from an amalgamation of materials. Having been in art school for two years, she has gained her fair share of experiences and believes that what makes an artwork unique is the artist’s ability to portray stories through artmaking.  (IG: perfectly_ame)

Artist Statement

Reading Yeo Hock Yew’s ‘I Remember’ inspires me to sketch. Words that flow through my mind becoming visuals to paint and draw. Having shared similarities with the writer, I came to discover what this artwork meant to me. Voyage, 2021 became a portal through which memories of the writer and mine converged. Interestingly, in my own voyage as an artist, I came to realise this artwork through modes, and methods of experimentation. With four paintings that turned to sculptural pieces made from plastic and clay. Playing with light and shadow to create an ephemeral nature likened to that of memories.

Raw materials were broken down into various forms, and pieced together to tell a new story. With a clear vision and intent, may Voyage, 2021 take you on a journey to discover what important memories you once hold on to.
