Synopsis

Genetic Landscape Issue 3: Metamorphosis — Cartography of Planned Optimism is the latest edition of our independent art zine series — a self-published, collaboratively curated project by a collective of independent artists. This third issue features 9 unique artworks by 10 artists, each treating the pages of the zine not as flat surfaces, but as an exhibition space in print.

Each contributor was invited to engage with the art zine as they would with a physical gallery: curating flow, interaction, and placement to explore how their work coexists with others across the spread. This issue reflects themes of transformation, transition, and the reshaping of forms — both visual and conceptual.

This is not just a publication — it’s a carefully considered spatial experience in book form.

It’s A4 size, 82 pages and printed in colour.

Featured artists : Jacquelyn SooJoey.SPLKoh Kai Ting and  Isabelle Lim (collaboration), Ong Xiao YunSharmeen/SifarSiew Guang HongTan Qian HuiT. Shuxia, and Yen Phang.

Featured writer: Daryl Li

Process of creating the art zine

Each artists were allocated 6 pages to create the artworks. Their artworks responded to the broader theme of genetic landscape and the focus theme of metamorphosis within the mapping of the mind and the body.

Discussions took place in different phases throughout the art project with the artists. The art zine was eventually laid out with curatorial themes from all the artworks submitted.
